Her mother's quilt
Several months ago I was asked by Darlene, a friend, if I could make some quilt charms to match her mother's quilt.
Her mother Betty had passed away in April 2013. In her room at the nursing home hung a small ceramic quilt block. They weren't sure who had given it to her; perhaps one of the 8 children she had, or one 15 grand kids, or one of the 13 great grand kids, or maybe even one of her quilting friends. I forgot to mention she was a good friend to my mother in law, who is also a quilter.
After Betty died, it was decided to create that ceramic quilt block into a full size quilt. Betty's friend, 93 year old Leona, (their husbands were cousins), matched the fabrics and pieced the quilt.
Betty had always attended church at St Margaret's. The ladies Sodality there hand quilted the piece.
Her daughter in law, Judy put the binding on it.
Usually when I make the quilt charms, I leave the paper pattern on the back. This time I asked if I could do something a little different.
This is what I came up with. The charms were given to each of Betty's daughters yesterday on Mother's Day. How appropriate, Mom's Quilt on Mother's day!

Catch up time.
My spring break is here. For the past two months I've been sewing quilt charms. I get so engrossed in sewing those inch and half squares, I do not want to clean, cook, or take a break. It's now catch up time.
Last Saturday, Angie (my expert jeweler) and I had a vendors table at a quilt retreat. There were two groups there. One was from Jefferson City, the Missouri River Quilt Guild; and the other from Columbia, the Boonslick Trail Quilt Guild.
The weather was less than desirable. Cold blowing winds, below freezing temperatures, with a big storm storm predicted. A lot of the ladies packed up early to miss the storm that never arrived.
We were just there from 9 AM to 4 PM on Saturday. It was so much fun visiting with all the ladies and seeing their talents. I think it's even inspired the jeweler to try her hand at quilt making.
This side was the Jefferson City group (while they were away eating breakfast). I checked out their machines and only found one vintage black Singer.
The quilt on the floor was from a Judy Niemeyer paper piece class that would be taught later in the day.
This is my half of the sales table. I used my 1956 Singer 99 as an attention getter. That it did! It made for some interesting conversations. I also had pictures of my 1919 Singer 66 Red Eye with it's beautiful parlor cabinet. No one had seen anything like it.
Our table together was quite fun. We got to chat the entire time. We also had Shirley guarding our booth if we were away. See her in the corner. . . the blond. You just had to take one look at her to see that she had shifty eyes!
It was a good day. We both left there with money in our pocket and our belly full. Thank you Guild for inviting us to show and for the nice luncheon.
I told you how Angie is now in the quilting mood . . . here is a new charm she is making.
Just so you know, they can break! This is what happened after my basket full of charms fell onto the concrete.
I still have a lot of charms left. If you'd like to purchase one just hop over here and take a look. I now have the cutest little gift bags to go along with them.

Quilt Charms for Sale!!!
It's a BIG plunge for me!
I've been sewing tiny pieces of fabric, really tiny! If you are on Facebook, you've probably seen some of my teases.
The original plan was, I would sew these tiny blocks, and then make them into charms. However after I took a jewelry class with my friend Tammy of Flat Creek Farm, I realized I was not cut out to be a jewelry maker.
It was by a great stroke of luck I found Angie. She makes some awesome jewelry and sells on Etsy too. We first met when we were doing a craft show in Jefferson City last fall. Shortly before Christmas she called to purchase something from the Blacksmith shop for her husband. When she came we got to talking. . . craft shows, campers, etc. One thing lead to another. She told me she made jewelry. I hired her on the spot. Really I should say she agreed to make some charms for me. Little did she know, I would have 50+ for her.
Long story short, they have arrived!
