Last week when I was helping my BFF iron 30 table cloths and 30 table runners, I saw her ironing board.
It's a sorry sight to see. She exclaimed, "yep had this same cover for my 30 plus years of marriage". At least what's left of it.
So today my mission was to break into her house and steal her ironing board.
I had covered mine sometime back and I still had some of the matching fabric left.
First turn the ironing board upside down on the fabric. Cut it out about 3 inches bigger than the board.
I then added a new padded purchased top.
I then added bias tape all around the edge, turned it over and sewed it down making about a 3/4 inch casing.
Take your husbands strong twine, add a safety pin and start string in through. Draw it tight and tie off with a good knot. Her board still had 3 spring clips, thought a little rusty, I reattached them to the under side.
We now have matching ironing board covers.
Well almost, I signed hers!
Now back to breaking and entering her house again before she gets home from work.
#3 Lemon Sorbetto . . .(Husband ate this one) He said it took him back to his teenage years when he use to get a lemon shake at the soda counter at the local drug store. He loved it!
#4 Dark Chocolate Chunk Gelatto . . . Oh can it really get any better than this???? I even wanted to lick the bowl. Okay so I did when no one was looking.
I still have several favors to review. Of course I'm trying to watch my weight before the upcoming wedding. But I will get around to it.
I've talked abut my BFF before. Here she is with her daughter at a shower last weekend. Her daughter is getting married just 7 days before my daughter. In fact the two brides are even sharing some of the same decorations!
Speaking of wedding, here are the two book covers I made for the little flower girls. The bride will be placing a sketch book, crayons, pencils and scissors in the pockets.
The shower finally got started, just a short 24 hour delay due to the Mid-Missouri snow storm that dumped about 8 to 10 inches of snow.
Drinks were first on the agenda. Grace made the best spiced cider drink. It had cream, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, and of course apple cider in it. you heat it up, and then in each individual cup add whipped cream and a shot of apple schnapps. Delicious!
The bar area was very popular. The food was good too, honey glazed chicken nuggets, sweet chili meatballs, garden salad, homemade hot rolls, sausage stuffed mushrooms, and cupcakes iced in the brides colors of purple and green.
Here we are, mother and daughter wearing each others dresses. I had to really suck up to get into her dress. My wedding dress she is wearing was made by me, and cost a whopping $36.16 for the fabric. That's a looooong way from what they cost now!
Here Sarah is with her other mother Diane, my bff. (More on that later). Notice both mothers are in the same dress color. We both had the same wrapping paper on our gifts too, quit by accident.
Lizzie really got into helping her aunt Sarah open gifts. She was just making up for what she missed by being sick at Christmas. In fact, Lizzie is wearing her Christmas dress for the first time.
Sarah and her cousin Melissa. These girls went all through school together, they are just 3 months apart in age.
For neighbor Kathy, this was her first time at a Sisterhood party. Let me tell you she did an excellent job (thanks to her mother's attic) choosing her outfit.
In side her late Grandmother Meller's purse she even found a piece of gum left behind for the new purse owner.
Check out Grandma's vintage shoes too. Unbelievable that are a perfect fit!
I am so glad everyone came out on a very cold night. Thanks Sisters! It was a fun time regardless of the weather.
Finally this gift brought me to tears. It's from my BFF. A sisterhood gift.
You have one, I have one, almost everyone has one. A BFF.
Mine happens to be my next door neighbor. Well almost, there are no houses in between us, but we are about a half mile apart as the road goes. But on a clear day, if we yell really, really loud, we could probably hear each other. When the leaves are off the trees in the winter, we can see each other's lights.
Over the 16 years we have lived "side by side", we have borrowed plenty of things from each other. We each have boys the same age, and our girls are just one year apart. So there have been the usual things to borrow . . . school supplies, computers, printers, even substitute parenting I'm pretty sure.
Then we adults have borrowed things like sinker molds (it's a guy thing) or a bag of water softener salt. Okay I was out of salt, but she still called to see if I had a bag to borrow. We are always raiding each others cabinets for cans of cream of something soup, onions, potatoes, oil to fry fish or chicken, breading for the fish, an egg, a cup of milk, and so much more.
Today was no different. She called me to see if by chance I had any cream cheese. I said "sure I do". She said she'd be right over. I yelled "wait, do you have a stick of butter?" "Yes", she said. I said "okay, I'll trade you".
Over she drives. (Remember I said we're a half mile apart). She said we were life savers again. They were making blackberry torte. We started laughing since we were making blackberry crisp!
It's scary sometimes, how much alike we are!

Okay so we changed it a little, we used blackberries and Missouri black walnuts. Otherwise it was the same.
