Today the blacksmith and I were antiquing in Monroe City (but that's another blog posting). Anyway, we were in an awesome antique store, when I spotted a milk glass donkey cart, the type his sister Janie collects. So being the age of the cell phones, I called her to see if she wanted me to pick it up for her.
While I had her on the phone, the blacksmith is looking at a cake mold and showing it to me. He tells me it is just like one his Grandmother Tappel had. So I tell Janie what he has, and she says, "How much? I want it!" I tell him, and he says, "too bad, I want it too!"
$8.00 later, it was ours! Sorry Janie.
It even has the original recipe sheet with it.

Well that lamb mold certainly caused a flash back as I opened your post this morning! My great aunt, Olga, always made my brother a birthday cake out of her latest cake mold, and the most memorable of those cakes was this sweet lamb! White frosting with a heavy coating of long stringy coconut for the curly wool......I don't remember how Olga's cakes tasted, but they sure were pretty!

Patti -- I, too, have that lamb cake mold!! Use it every Easter for as long as I can remember. Use a star decorating tip and cover the entire cake with white stars of frosting. Adorable!

I have a lamb cake mold too, but it is heavy club aluminum. But 8.00?
