Could a camper be in our future?

Today the blacksmith and I took a road trip about an hour and 10 minutes from the house.

It was to look at a 2002 Casita 16 foot Freedom Deluxe travel trailer. The price sounded good.


Here is the dining area and the sleeping area behind it makes into a living room, after you reset the couch. I am already dreaming of the quilt I could make for the bed. (and I'd make my bed a little neater too.)

The small kitchen included a built in microwave behind the door, with a refrigerator below. The two burner stove looked brand new. What I didn't take a picture of was the bathroom with a shower. It was a lot packed into a small space, including built in air conditioning.

The main concern the blacksmith has is the exterior. It is fiberglass which has not been waxed probably ever. It's a little oxidized and would need lots of TLC to restore it.

And I thought there was no mail on a holiday . . .

Today on my way home from work, I did not stop at the mail box. I knew it was a legal holiday and there was no mail delivery

However when I got to the front door, I was proven wrong. There was mail delivery. . . seems the UPS man delivers on holidays.



I quickly cut the box open, anticipation was killing me. I had received packages before from the Bedillions and I knew they were one sweet deal!

Sara and Mark sent us a jar of their wonderful honey! You see I had made them a quilt for their new bundle of joy who is due in just 16 days. I so enjoyed making the little guy a

bee themed quilt.

I can hardly wait for the morning light to come. I'm gonna toast a piece of sour dough bread, smear it with real butter and pour on the fresh honey. YUMMO!

Thanks Sara and Mark! I'm looking forward to the little guy's arrival and sending prayers that all goes well!

The week's end

In July I won Moda Cotton Blossoms from Lori. After sewing these together I decided I like them so well that I bought another charm pack off Ebay for only $6.25. They should be here Monday. Somehow I will make this a big enough quilt to cover a queen bed. Or so I think now. So far I have only used the charm pack and fabric from my stash. Therefore the only money I've spent is for the one ebay pack.

Elizabeth was here today. She loves to PICK, PICK, as she says.

Here she is trying to ride the tractor we bought her daddy when he was about the same age.

It was a beautiful day for 4 wheeler rides.

Grandpa and the boys did some target practice in the back yard. Brady has been deer hunting yesterday and today.

Even though Alex is too young to hunt deer in Missouri, it never hurts to train them early.

Shavings

The kids for some reason(s) never complain about coming to Grandma and Grandpa's house.

Today I had fresh made shavings for them or schnitzel as the Germans call them.

Elizabeth made sure she savored every last bite!

They are coming back tomorrow, what shall I make?

The Worlds Largest Steam Locomotive

Union Pacific Railroad's "Challenger" No. 3985, the world's largest operating steam locomotive, is on a six-state, 2,200-mile tour from Cheyenne, Wy., to Gorham, Il., to celebrate railroad heritage.

No. 3985 is on the Missouri River Eagle tour to help Sedalia, Mo., celebrate the community's Sesquicentennial on Sunday, October 10.

Yesterday it pulled into Jefferson City. After school today, the blacksmith and I picked up the boys and away we went to see this huge train.





The boys got a close up seat on the front.

You can see just how big this train is compared to the boys.

There were tons of people taking pictures, including my brother Bob's friend. Did I tell you my brother lives in the state of California and this was his high school friend.

The blacksmith is always attracted to fire and hot metal. If you enlarge this picture you can see the fire heating the water in the engine.

The guys got ahead of me. Note to self, next time wear flats on rough gravel.

When I caught up with them, we posed for a picture. I only wish I had pictures of my grand parents taking me to events at that age.

Afterwards it was up the hill to the State Capitol, Alex loves it there. Brady enjoyed the fountains too. A little too much, as he ended up with one very wet shirt sleeve.

Across the mighty Missouri River we saw lots of barges.

This barge won't be going any where for some time. Apparently it washed upon the bank during high waters. Now it sits high and dry.


We ran to the hardware store and then took the boys home. Their dad was making some good smelling vegetable soup. He asked us to stay but, we had ham and beans in the slow cooker.

This is how our evening was spent, enjoying a nice fall fire.

A Family weekend

It's been a great family weekend around here. Daughter Sarah drove in Friday from Oklahoma City. That night all the kids and grand kids went out for Mexican food and drinks.

After dinner little Elizabeth came home with us to spend the night. When the football (home coming) game was over Sarah brought Brady home to spend the night. So two of the 3 grand kids spent the night.

Saturday, Sarah had a wedding to attend. Early afternoon Jeremy and the other grandson came. Later Lori came after photographing a wedding in Koeltztown.

For dinner they were all here for fresh fried turkey. The blacksmith had shot it on Friday.

Sunday, Sarah and I did a little shopping, and then went to see my mom. It was on to Central Dairy for a mint chocolate chip ice cream cone.

We stopped by the house and picked up the blacksmith and headed to Osage Bend, (not to be confused with Osage Bluff).

Anyway, St Margaret's parish was dedicating their new Veterans Memorial.

Sarah and Elizabeth enjoyed the cool crisp afternoon on the parish grounds.

The flag goes up the new pole. Son Jeremy read the names of the veterans that were buried in the cemetry. The dedication was followed by a free BBQ lunch.


Back on the home front in the evening Sarah returned to her baking duties. That is something I always enjoyed when she lived here.



She made Pioneer womans Streusel-topped pumpkin bread. You must try this recipe. It's AWESOME!!!


Tomorrow life returns to dull. It's a long drive for Sarah and it's back to work for me.
