What to do inside when it's really cold outside!

What to do when it's cold outside. . .

Here I am in the early 50's. Yes I really am that old. I am playing in my toy kitchen. I still have that stove if you want to come and play with me.

Fast forward to yesterday and Elizabeth is playing with my kitchen. This is the cabinet my Daddy made for me one year at Christmas. I saw him building it. He told me it was for his tools. Christmas morning when I saw it under the tree, I said "look, Santa put my dishes on Daddy's tool cabinet.
On another note, this marks half way on the hand quilting I am doing. Never thought I'd get this far without giving up. It's going good. So good, that I might hand quilt another one after this.

Here are some of the details close up.

We have been using this as a night stand for years. My Grandpa Saucier made it out of old spools, probably from a local shoe factory. It has a warped pine top.

Yesterday the Blacksmith (who is bored staying inside in the cold) put 2 coats of finish on this one for me.

This is what it looked like when I purchased it at an auction last summer.
So what are you doing in all this cold?

What did you and Elizabeth cook?
Hand quilting I think that is wonderful. Quilts have a completely different feel when they have been hand quilted.
Love the spool table, what a great memory to have something from grandparents.

I'm cleaning and re-organizing and EATING EATING EATING... sigh.

You put great photos on your blog, Patti - my suggestion, if you don't mind my saying, is to make them bigger when posting on your blog. It's real easy to do and really enhances your posts.

P.S. 10 more boxes went out yesterday, they don't tell me which ten go out every day, you might be getting your gelato/sorbetto today or tomorrow. The snow is dragging the deliveries out.

What memories you must get when you see Elizabeth playing with your kitchen--too cute!

I enjoyed seeing your hand quilting. Are you using a water soluble pen to mark the lines? I used one on my last big quilt and it worked great.

This morning I got a UFO table runner ready to machine quilt and when that is done, I hope to start hand quilting my 'birds of a feather' king quilt. It has been waiting to get finished for a couple of years now--time does fly so fast!

Stokin' the fire baby!!! I'm pullin' the grill out for steaks Friday though, I'm havin' grillin' withdrawal. :o)

You quilt is beautiful, I've always loved the hand-quilted ones they are just cozier.

Your little kitchen is almost as precious as your little doll playin' with it now.

Enjoy the day and may it be filled with rich blessings from above.

Your kitchen set story is great. What a great memory - and lucky Elizabeth!

I hope the spool table is still with you... Your auction find turned out great.

I'm still wanting to help on that quilt. What does next week look like for you? Wednesday evening is out for me and Tuesday won't work for Rita. Other than that, I think we are pretty flexible. Just let me know.

I've been lazy lately. That's what I've been doing!

I love it that Lizzie is playing in your little kitchen! I hope to build a little kitchen for a future grandchild. My Grandpa Winfree built things for me when I was tiny. Sadly, my little musical rocking chair got ruined in my parents' wet basement :( But, I do have two nice stands (one a pedestal) that he made that are in use to this day. I can't seem to get to all my projects that need starting - Lord help me find some time & energy! :) Your quilt is *gorgeous*! As is that nightstand! -Tammy

There is just something about seeing a grand play with a toy that was ours or their parents. I don't know what it is but it sure makes me feel all good inside. :)
