A surprise at the ball game!!

The blacksmith and I are on parenting duties this weekend. That included taking 8 yr. old Brady to his ballgame.

The night air was hot and humid. So humid in fact I put my hair up in a ponytail. Never thinking I would meet a blogger friend in person for the first time.

I climbed up on the bleachers and sat down. Soon the blacksmith joined me and just as I was asking him if that was Jim sitting across from us, Jim waves.

We met Jim last year at his part time night job. Okay, it can be a day job too. Anyway, during that conversation one thing lead to another and some how his wife Deanna (My loves, my life) and I met on the blogosphere a few days later.

After Jim came over to visit with us, Deanna asked her daughter, "now who is Dad talking to?" He then motions for her to come over. As she walks over, she recognizes me. The rest is history.

So here are two blogger girls with hair styles to support the humidity.

We had a great time talking during, between, and after ballgames. We are going to make a date to get together. Deanna agreed to show me how to use my borrowed serger. The blacksmith and Jim will check out the shop and maybe even get in a little fishing.

Anyway, back to the game . . .
Here is Brady running to first base.

Here Brady plays catcher for one inning.

After the game we came home for some watermelon. Our first one this season. Little E. enjoyed it. Sorry the picture is blurry, but I just had to show you the juice drip on her chin. Precious!

The tree trimmers

Working for an electric cooperative, I knew the day was coming. Tree trimmers are hired to keep the right of way under power lines cleared.

Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on your point of view, the power lines run right up along the side of our long drive way. I say fortunately, because by trimming, they can keep the branches from scraping the cars and trucks that come in. However it does drastically change the view.

Yesterday morning, we got a knock on the door at 7:40. The trimmers had arrived.

Luckily, I knew they were in the area so I took this picture the day before.

Just a short time later it was starting to look like this.

Later this . . .

Even Bentley notices the difference.

It's all trimmed, chipped, and opened up.

Here's the machine that did it all. It's a Jarraff All-Terrain Tree Trimmer.

Notice the big saw blade.

All this took place in a matter of about 5 hours. It only took one batch of cookies to bribe the guys not to butcher my big cedar trees!

Missouri River Quilt Fest 2010

Saturday, I went to the quilt show in Jefferson City.
The doors showed you the way.

This was one of my favorite quilts.
I would never think of using purple and green together.
But now that I've seen it, I will rethink that one.
It was stunning!!!!
I only wish I would have taken down the name of it and who made it.
I was just mesmerized by it.

Beautiful dogs and birds.
The title is Summer's end.
I think I would change the name if I had this quilt.

This Dear Janet quilt intrigued me completely.

It's a take off of the Dear Jane quilt.
Would you believe I have been working on a Dear Patti quilt for some time now.
I am using 4 inch paper piece blocks.
Had I seen this 3 inch paper piece blocks, maybe I would have tried that.

3-D Fall stars, you had to see it in person to appreciate it.
The squares in the middle of the stars were folded and somehow sewn to stand out.
The shadowing was unbelievable!

Love the laundry bag!

I could recreate this picture easily with my childhood ironing board and iron that I have.

The inside entrance was the first eye candy. Only 300+ quilts to go.

Finally, I remembered to take my scissors and my pinking shears.
The are now better than brand new!

Debbie and Patty from Saltbox Primitive Woolens are busy stitching.
As I passed by in my hankie blouse,
Debbie said something about "Katie would like my blouse".
I said "excuse me Katie has already seen it".
They were surprised that I knew who they were talking about.
Katie at Primitive Woolens and I are blogger friends.

It was so much fun shopping in the vendor's booths.
I so wanted to take a Janome embroidery machine #530 home with me.
Does anyone have one?
Any suggestions?

And so I took many, many pictures of the beautiful quilts.
I also looked for Raymond from Nacho Grandma's quilts, but I was a little too early.
I heard he showed up a little later.
Maybe next time we can meet in person!

I will leave you with a slide show of the quilts.

Enjoy!!!!!

It's a Bee-autiful day in the neighborhood

The winds came first.

And rains followed.

Life in the country is good!

Today it looked like this around here.

At the entrance to our drive way is this large sand stone.
Coreopsis have grown in a crack on top.

Along the drive are Shasta Daisies.

These heirloom tomatoes are doing well.
They survived a truck ride from Flat Creek Farm.
Thanks Ms. Tammy!

The wild raspberries are starting to turn.
That reminds me I need to buy some vanilla bean ice cream soon!

And so you see it's a Bee-autiful day in the neighborhood!
Such a tease I am!

8:30pm 81 degrees.
