The Bees have a new home.

I first told you about the Bee's hanging around our place on June 3rd. It was a bee-utiful day.

From bloggler Sara I got this comment:
Bee!!!! Did you design that yourself?! Awesome!!!

I didn't reply to her. On June 17th, I posted June rains makes flowers and more. I told the everyone in blogger land the bees were still hanging around.

Once again from blogger Sara I get this comment:
You're killin' me with the bees already!! ;)

July 1st, Christmas in July, I wrote that the bee's had left the hive.

Blogger Sara wrote to me: And you are an ornery woman, I think. :) In the best possible way, of course. XO

I was pretty sure Sara knew something was coming her way.

I don't remember how Sara and I met in blogger land. It's been close to 2 years. We've exchange wonderful emails, her honey for the blacksmith hoof picks, lots of pictures and good times between us.

When I heard her and beekeeper husband Mark were expecting a baby, I knew I wanted to make them a quilt. One day when I was strolling through a quilt shop I found the most awesome bee fabrics. Including some Debbie Mumm, fabric with all kinds of bee things on it. I used that for my fussy cut fabric. I paper pieced bees, and as I do on most all of my quilts, I paper pieced the year.

The quilt was mailed Thursday. I could hardly wait until it arrived.

Christmas in July

Many years ago on a quilters bulletin board, I met Kathy from Australia. If I remember correctly, she was looking for a certain piece of fabric. I had it and mailed it to her. We have been pen pals ever since. We exchange Christmas gifts and cards along with emails..

Let me tell you, she sends the neatest things to me. She always includes something for the grand kids too. I usually get fabric, calendars, figurines, etc., that represent her country.

This year, I was a slacker. Yes, a slacker. I got a wonderful gift from her and I had nothing to send back.

But I know her birthday is sometime in July. So today I sent her a package and titled it Christmas in July.

I had been assembling things for a couple of months. One item was a pattern for a traveling sewing kit. I had purchased the pattern at the quilt show in Stover.

I realized a couple of weeks ago it required 5 zippers. I went in search of reasonably priced zippers and found some on Etsy.com. The cost for 5 zippers was $3.50.

Can you read the return address where they came from? It was FINLAND. Yes, many miles away. So can you believe how many miles these zippers will travel before arriving in Australia?



Here is her birthday present. Two fabrics for the travel bag, including the orange braid for the handle, 5 zippers and the clear plastic, a pair of button earrings, and the green package is bobbin holders from Sewing with Nancy. (I'd like one of these myself)

I whipped up this apron yesterday to include with her gift.

I feel pretty sure she doesn't read my blog. So I think I am safe in showing this.

. . . the bees have left the hive. If you find them will you please let me know ? ? ?

A frog walks into the bank

A frog goes into a bank and approaches the teller. He can see from
her nameplate that her name is Patricia Whack.

"Miss Whack, I'd like to get a $30,000 loan to take a holiday."

Patti looks at the frog in disbelief and asks his name. The frog says
his name is Kermit Jagger, his dad is Mick Jagger, and that it's
okay, he knows the bank manager.


Patti explains that he will need to secure the loan with some collateral.


The frog says, "Sure. I have this," and produces a tiny porcelain
elephant, about an inch tall, bright pink and perfectly formed.

Very confused, Patti explains that she'll have to consult with the
bank manager and then disappears into a back office.

She finds the manager and says, "There's a frog called Kermit Jagger
out there who claims to know you and wants to borrow $30,000, and he
wants to use this as collateral."

She holds up the tiny pink elephant. "I mean, what in the world is this?"

The bank manager looks back at her and says...

"It's a knickknack, Patti Whack. Give the frog a loan. His old man's
a Rolling Stone."

(You're singing it, aren't you? Yeah, I know you are...)

Never take life too seriously! Come on now, you grinned, I know you
did!!!

Bringing home the bacon and Child labor AGAIN

Now that's the blacksmith is retired he continues to bring home the bacon.

Or in today's case. . . about 4 gallons of the most beautiful blackberries.

Ya gotta love this guy!

Once again we put the grandsons to use.

This time digging potatoes.

We harvested about 2 bushels of potatoes.

In the rest of the garden, the cucumbers are just setting on.


The cucumbers will look so beautiful hanging from their woven wire trellises.



The patty pan squashes have been blooming.
I love these squash and you never see them for sale in the stores around here.
Thinly sliced, dipped in beaten egg and flour and fried until golden brown.
Oh so good!

More beans

When it's 94.5 outside, this is what you do. You cook in the garage. This keeps all that steamy heat out of my kitchen. And heck, a little more steam outside, who knows the difference?

There's more where those came from.

The roma tomatoes are loaded. Thanks Nancy for telling me about this type.

Did I mention we also have this row of beans?

I just pulled out fabric to make an apron for my Australian quilter friend. She has a birthday in July. In all my stash did I have two packages of bias tape the same color? No. Shoot I hate going to town. Maybe I will do multi-colors!
